Every year, we receive many requests to do the school portraits because parents aren't happy with assembly-line photography offered at the school. But unfortunately, most school album companies use their own photographers and "mass quantity" photography is their specialty. When Senior Year comes, the same companies that shoot the underclassmen photos, charge sitting fees that include a limited number of poses and outfits along with the basic yearbook shot. The appointment cards make no mention of the cost of print packages and the marketing materials show a range of shots that may not be realistic for the make-shift "studio space" often set up within your high school. Students often end up with poses and pictures that aren't much different from their previous year's portraits and find that the product costs are much higher, (their minimum package of prints can cost over $150).

Do you have to use them? Unfortunately, they won't allow outside photos to be added to their yearbook, so if you want to appear in the yearbook, you'll still have to sit for their photographer for the yearbook photo.

Do you have to buy them? NO!
